Passage du Gois

This 4.2 km submersible road links the Ile de Noirmoutier (Barbâtre) to the mainland (Beauvoir-sur-Mer) at low tide. An exceptional natural site, the Passage du Gois and its surroundings are a refuge for numerous species of flora and fauna, and deserve special attention. Since November 2017, they have been classified as sites of national interest and natural monuments. The Département, in conjunction with local authorities and the French government, is leading an initiative to preserve and enhance this natural and tourist attraction.

Please note that parking on the chaussée du Gois is prohibited.

You can also reach the island of Noirmoutier via the bridge to the south of the island, which links Barbâtre and the mainland from Fromentine. The Noirmoutier bridge is also equipped with a cycle path.

When to cross the Gois? Check the tide times before crossing. In the event of an average tide coefficient of over 70, you can cross 1h30 before and 1h30 after low tide.
