An innovative museum

The museum, which opened on the banks of the Boulogne, is innovative and largely influenced by North American establishments. The museography was conceived and designed by a department of the Conseil Départemental de la Vendée: La Conservation Départementale des Musées de la Vendée.

The design of this new kind of museum is based on five main principles:

Strong presence of interactivity and new technologies

“Desacralizing” the museum through a permanent alliance between knowledge and entertainment

Focus on very young children, considered an audience in their own right

Exhibition dramatization and the art of staging in compliance with collection conservation standards

Museography featuring large architectural sets, audiovisual projections, lighting effects and shows

With a constant eye to scalability, the architects have designed modular spaces, the main feature of which is a technical grill overhanging the museum spaces at a height of more than 6 meters.

The Historial is the first museum in France to be equipped with such a system, similar to those found in television and film studios.
